Minstrel is one of favorite EVER musical statements. Where’s the “one”? 😅
I was fortunate to meet Martin Barre at Hampton Beach on their 1st tour date for the American leg of Dot Com. He’s a real sweetheart. We had a memorable conversation about John Glascock and I’m profoundly thankful for his humility and generosity of his time. A wonderful man.
Kenapa ya band sekeren ini kok belum pernah konser di Indonesia
Brilliant song.
Please.. I appreciate you Eric
“What time do you guys go on”
Hearing Adam and John talk about Panic! and Arctic Monkeys is wild, I never knew I needed that today.
🤙🏻
It seems like there’s a tendency to talk about genre in this reified way these days, as though there were an Official Academy of Shoegaze. Really it seems to break down to one artist or scene being so innovative that anyone who is inspired by them seems to need a new label. Maybe the key is to be inspired by their spirit of experimentation rather than taking our tendency to speak of music in “genres” at face value? All that said, MBV deserves every bit of worship they get. Cool interview. ⚡️
Lemmy said fuck the bar let’s get the gear in first.yaa hoo
i dont know anyone who ever considered Deftones shoegaze. Thats a weird one too me and cant say i really agree. Lots of alternative rock albums were just classified under that umbrella. also like, Hum
Beautiful LOL
Hope they keep Narcan around
They're sober and have been for years
If your my age and actually played music in 1986-1995 you thought tht the name shoegaze was fookin lame. It was a jurno put down, actually. I have favorite albums but to participate in the claiming of genius works if art as shoegaze would be a fookinbput down. I like Diiv but their picks are SHITE!!!! Genres are a lousy way to explore the art of music. My head was filled with lots of left dial late nights and hours of fingering through the import sections of my favorite record stores. As well as experimenting how to produce sounds our of my Fender Twin with my Teisco EP-17.
deftones are post-hardcore not shoegaze
DESTINY XL 4EVER
Lazer Guided Melodies by Spiritualized is an amazing shoegaze record
Spiritualized s not a shoegaze band and LGM is not a shoegaze album. It’s a drug taking album. There is no way Jason Pierce would consider any of those labels placed upon him and his projects.
Why are they so sad?
Afraid to say Whirr
💅🏻💄👰🏻♂️
fr
They were being real nice about the zoomgaze genre lol. Essentially all zoomgaze bands are trying to imitate Deftones and whirr. Glare is pretty good but i cannot stand wisp
Jake is drop dead Gorgeous!!- He just gets better with age...
TAGABOW MENTIONED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
these guys are all so weird looking
Union: Yes
There is a ton of quintessential shoegaze records from the past though some disagree on what is quintessential. : (
Meh
Like-the drinking game
That game would be nonstop drinking
Martin Barre one of the best lead guitar players ever.
deftones is a really interesting addition, and i agree. explains why i really like that record and other “nu metal” bands not so much (but still some)
I think it's pretty clear from this video interview that half the band wasn't real happy with this record.
How
I really wanted them to say Swirlies (blonder tongue audio baton maybe). I'm glad they picked isn't anything though.
love Swirlies! <3
Souvlaki came out in 1993 not 1995
He was a year off, I'll give him a pass on that bit of detail.
Interesting talk although I wish this would have included more of the modern shoegaze bands (like TAGABOW for example) instead of the endless discussions about MBV and Slowdive.
Hopefully a youtube channel is smart enough to do a 5 Essential New Shoegaze Bands with DIIV, and they give us their hot takes
When I heard Deftones considered as a Shoegaze band a few months ago in a article on the top 50 shoegaze bands I didn’t know what to think 😮 I’m 48 I was listening to the origins of Shoegaze when MBV, Ride, Lush and Slowdive were blowing up.
Their certainly not a Shoegaze band in the canonical sense, but I think for the current wave of Shoegaze related bands, they are a big influence. I think it's cool that what was once a tiny subgenre is possibly expanding into an actual genre the way Indie Rock or Post Punk are genres.
As someone who lived through the original Shoegaze scene, its been a weird thing in recent months to discover people consider Deftones shoegaze. I was at a recent Slowdive show and a guy wearing a jeans jacket with tons of patches had a big MBV art piece in the middle with patches from Slowdive, Mazzy Star, and one from Deftones. It confused me, because I always considered them more in the Nu-Metal scene, but when I was discussing the jacket with someone they told me that Deftones do have a bit of a shoegaze tone to their music, its just the vocals that are different. I've also learned that Chino (the singer) comes from the same background the rest of us do, as far as music influences are concerned.
really great cole is tapping into the great younger bands right now. TAGABOW, Kraus, Teethe (not shoegaze but amazing), Fullbody 2.
新譜最高に好きです。日本に来て欲しい。
Not to be that guy in the comments but this guy’s take on Deftones being shoegaze is such lazy genre revisionism. Why are indie heads afraid to admit they like metal?
Yea Deftones has a few shoegazey songs but I’d say they are more alternative metal more than anything
Deftones shoe gaze fs
@@ericrivera950 how?
@@meow5811 watch the video man, they explain the argument
@@ericrivera950 I did watch the video and I didn’t agree with their argument. We’d be better off considering Deftones Nu-Gaze pioneers rather than being lazy and calling them shoegaze.Yes Deftones have some shoegaze songs but it’s a reach to consider them a shoegaze a band .
A record that draws heavily from influences is boring to me if they haven’t expanded those directions.
They look like leftists
They defo wear keffiyehs.
What, just open minded people, or pinko commies?
You sound rightist
@@cactaceous def
I love how these great bands coming up right now seem like super trendy people I'd hate in real life.
DIIV have been around a while
I was an early Oasis fan…..and many other bands……but I always loved Shoegaze (first in fact).
I liked the guy on the right, like, yawning. Could these guys like use the word "like" like more like?
They're like what Rockstar would make as a parody "indie/shoegaze" band in a GTA game.
Someone needs a nap <3
highly recommend their podcast, they've got great insights into the industry but mostly the way they dig into their creative process and discuss influences and inspiration is really cool
what's it called?
"The DIIV Podcast"@@jsimonfabien
name?
These guys need to stop saying “like” for gods sake
I simply just love Andrew
Andrew looks pissed lol
That’s hilarious
Yeah he looks displeased during the entire interview. Makes me wonder if he wasn't into the direction they went with this album. He brings a lot of energy to their songs and live shows and this is a pretty laxed group of songs on this one. Which is great when it's not the entire list.
he just looks like that, he's awesome
They're a glum bunch. And the constant "...like...like...like..." is irksome.
@@rjmacready6693 agree, you can see Andrew's energy shift whenever the higher paced songs come on like taker, sometime, past lives, doused, etc. He gets so into it. But, on the slower ones, he just kind of makes his way through them. Particularly with the songs on the last 2 albums, DIIV has slowed down so much. I miss old DIIV though, so I am biased.
👏
I love the record but at least have one song like Healthy Moon or Sometime or Out of mind.
No
Little Birds and Everyone Out is the closest to that sound, but wish they wrote more songs like that too
@@NinjaBeast117 it's a dreamy , drowny album and I like that but.... you gotta have at least one of those poppier tunes like Out of mind. Anyway I'm seeing them in a few weeks in Los Angeles at the Wiltern where the big boys play.

love the new album
